“Where, when, and what is ‘the West’? The history of an idea”

 A talk by Prof. Georgios Varouxakis (Queen Mary University of London). Prof. Varouxakis is a Co-director of  QMUL Centre for the Study of the History of Political Thought. He is the author of  Liberty Abroad: J. S. Mill on International Relations (CUP, 2013) and numerous other books and articles on the intellectual history of liberalism, nationalism, cosmopolitanism.
The seminar will take place on May 10, Friday, at 16.15 in M 328. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Presentation of “Between the Times” PhD projects

The project’s PhD students (Johannes Bent, Ksenia Shmydkaya and Jorge Varela) made a presentation of their projects at Tallinn University’s Interdisciplinary research seminar on the 16th of April 2019. The projects were discussed by Professors Liisi Keedus and Alexandre Horstmann, and by fellow PhD students.

Public presentation of “Between the Times” project

Tommaso Giordani made a presentation of the “Between the Times” project at Tallinn University’s Centres of Excellence public outreach seminar on the 14th of March 2019. In addition to researchers from the University, the event was attended by – and aimed at – other non-academic partners of the University.

“For the Benefit of the People” – On Lydia Koidula’s Social Thought in the 1860s

Piret Peiker made a presentation at the celebratory meeting of the Estonian Academic Agricultural Society on 20 February 2019, her talk titled “For the Benefit of the People” – On Lydia Koidula’s Social Thought in the 1860s, based on her latest research collaborating with colleagues Krista Mits and Daniele Monticelli. The talk discussed Koidula’s conceptualisation of the ideas of „the history“ and „the people“. The meeting was dedicated to the celebration of the 101st anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. The Estonian Academic Agricultural Society unites top scholars in the agricultural fields and promoters of knowledge-based Estonian agriculture. We are pleased that Piret Peiker was invited to join the Society in connection with her contribution to the historical study of modern Estonian agriculture, as well as with her role as a Member of Board of the company that won the prize for the best Estonian organic product 2018 (birch syrup).
